Evolution into Sound: The Spectrum Era
As my musical journey progressed, my sound began to shift. I found myself drawn away from the standard rock format and deep into the intricate, expansive textures of progressive rock. That transition led to the formation of Spectrum.
We began as a tight, three-piece original rock band before expanding our lineup to add a drummer and a second guitarist, allowing us to build the larger, layered sound I was searching for.
The Hollywood Sessions One of the highlights of this era was tracking our music at a professional 24-track studio in the Hollywood Hills. Recording in that setting, tucked away in the canyons, was a milestone experience. We were capturing something raw and professional, and I’m proud to say those original demos have been preserved and are available in the music section of this site. They are pure, high-octane rock and roll.
The Original Spectrum Lineup:
- Jeff Sciullo: Keys & Backing Vocals
- Raymond “Monie” Kulick: Lead Vocals
- Jerry Shepard: Lead Guitar & Backing Vocals
Spectrum was where I really leaned into the “Formula”—taking the discipline we’d mastered in earlier years and applying it to more complex, progressive arrangements.
